Dr. Voddie Baucham, Jr. commands one of the biggest voices of the 21st century—literally! His deep voice is Genesis’ “unseen narrator” whose vocal presence gives the visual images deeper meaning and life. Outside the movie, Dr. Baucham’s rich, theological background makes him an even bigger voice for the movie’s message. As one of America’s leading apologists with his emphasis on Cultural Apologetics, Dr. Baucham’s unique messages faithfully clarify the Bible and demonstrate its relevance to everyday life. Raised in a non-Christian, single-parent home, Baucham did not hear the gospel until he was in college. His unusual, intellectual journey to faith allows him to understand what it means to be a skeptic and to try to figure out the Christian life without relying on the traditions of men. As a result, he speaks to ‘outsiders’ in ways few Bible teachers can.
Wearing many hats, Dr. Baucham serves as husband, father, author, professor, conference speaker, church planter, pastor, and most recently as Seminary Dean for African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia.
Dr. Baucham holds degrees from Houston Baptist University (BA in Christianity/BA in Sociology), Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary (D.Min.), an honorary degree from Southern California Seminary (D.D.), and has completed post-graduate study at the University of Oxford, England’s Regent’s Park College.
Voddie and his wife, Bridget married in 1989 and are committed home educators for their nine children: Jasmine, Trey (Voddie, III), Elijah, Asher, Judah, Micah, Safya, Amos, and Simeon.
On a personal note, Voddie is also an accomplished Martial Artist having taken up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2012 as an avenue of self-defense training, personal fitness, and outreach. However, he began competing and found both a passion and a talent winning numerous tournaments and titles, including winning the 2014 Pan American Championship in his division.
